Principal
Don Miller
Originally from Illinois, Don earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education with a minor in Teaching English for Speakers of other Languages from Illinois State University. After graduation Don worked as an English teacher abroad in Chile and then for a year in Illinois before moving to Washington to attend UW Seattle for his Masters of Education in Language, Literacy, and Culture.
Don began working in Highline Public Schools at Mt. Rainier High School where he was a Multilingual Coordinator. He then taught Humanities classes at Waskowitz Environmental Leadership and Service (WELS) when it was its own school on the Woodside campus. At WELS, he developed project and community-based curriculum for students focused on sustainability and leadership. After working at WELS, Don moved to Highline High School where he taught beginning reading and writing as well as coordinated programming for multilingual learners.
Don eventually transitioned to school administration through the University of Washington's Danforth Educational Leadership Program and then became the Assistant Principal at Tyee High School focusing on expanding College in the High School and CTE classes for students.
As principal of CHOICE Academy, Don is excited to build upon the excellence that is already happening in the CHOICE community and see how the program expands in the coming years. He is excited to work with various stakeholders to create a clear and solid vision for the future of CHOICE Academy.
When not at work, Don loves spending time at Lake Washington when in Seattle and visiting his family back in Chicago.
